The acclaimed crime series AC-12 will make a comeback for its seventh season, confirmed by the BBC.

An upcoming six-part series created by the show's creator will begin filming in Belfast in the coming months, according to the network.

The actress shared her enthusiasm about the comeback, stating she was "so excited" about the show's renewal. Adrian Dunbar remarked, "What a joy it is to know that the Three Amigos will be reuniting together next year."

The last season concluded in 2021 with a final episode that attracted more than 17 million viewers. Rumors about a potential return have been widespread ever since, but official word only came recently.

Fresh Obstacles for AC-12

The seventh season begins with AC-12 having been disbanded and renamed as the new police oversight body, as revealed by production details.

Martin Compston's character, Vicky McClure's role, and Adrian Dunbar's part continue working to tackle corruption within the police force.

Their work "faces unprecedented challenges", and under these circumstances, these officers are assigned their "most delicate case to date."

An additional officer, DI Dominic Gough, portrayed as a charismatic officer known for busts of organized crime, is accused of misusing his authority to act as a sexual predator.

The drama premiered in 2012 and became a highly successful television series of the past ten years, featuring guest stars such as Thandiwe Newton.

Broadcasters haven't revealed when the new season will premiere.

The conclusion of series six drew the extended plot about the search for kingpin known as "the mysterious H" to a close, and producers said at the time there were no plans for additional seasons.

However, the network confirmed on this week that a seventh series is now being produced.
